Israel vs. The United States Border with Mexico

Welcome to the end of a very busy week in all sense of the word. We have seen the United States celebrate Memorial Day along with the government of the country in turmoil to some degree. The United States is embroiled in political battles as well as a battle with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, now considered the worst in history. At the same time, the United States finds itself at a crossroads in its relationship with the only true ally in the Middle East, the State of Israel. In the introduction blog, "Israel, the True Land of Milk and Honey," I gave a sort of overview of the earlier weeks event when Israeli Commando's raided six vessels of the Pro-Palestinian group, Free Gaza. On the lead ship, a Turkish cruise ship, ten activists were killed and four Israeli's were badly injured when it appeared that the operation went terribly bad.

For many years, the Israeli's have committed themselves to a blockade of the Gaza Strip. Basically, what the Israeli's have been asking is that all vessels wanting to deliver aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip stop at the Port of Ashdod first and be inspected and then it could continue on or the Israeli's at their transgression can deliver the aid and material themselves. When this happened in the past, it has been confirmed that such aid and material did make it to the Gaza Strip.

Now, when asked to pull into port, the six ships, all from Turkey, decided that they were not going to comply with the wishes of Israel, so the military acted.

Many radio talk shows have been covering this and for the entire week, we have been seeing on television the repeat of the video taken from the lead ship. It shows Israeli Commando's repelling from helicopters to the ship's deck below. The commando's appeared to have their weapons slung over their shoulders and did not seem to be firing on the "activist's" below. What was interesting was this: the activist's seemed to already have metal rods and metal chairs and knives at the ready to use on the commando's. If this was the case, then the commando's did have a right to protect themselves.

So, now we come to a bit of a comparison between the Israeli's having the right to defend themselves as does the United States does when it comes to its borders. So, I ask you, what is the difference between President Obama sending troops to the Arizona border (military troops that is) and the Israeli's wanting to protect its borders?

I, along with Sean Hannity, believe that both countries have a right to protect themselves. He was talking a great deal about thousands of rockets being fired on Israel from the Gaza Strip which is controlled by the terrorist group, The Hamas. Well, here is a case in point for you. I lived in Israel for nearly three years and there had been numerous times that I had to live in bomb shelters when attacks were impending and rockets rained overhead. This was scary beyond belief and as a teenager at the time, I had no idea if I would see home again.

One thing is for sure, the United States does not want illegal immigration to get out of hand just as the Israeli's do not want rockets to be delivered to the Gaza Strip by any means to be fired on their cities and towns. So, I challenge the Free Gaza Movement to stop acting like fools and do what is right. Follow the orders of the Israeli government and report to port. Attempting to run the blockade is futile and does not do anyone any good.

Israel does have a right to protect itself as does the United States of America, so I ask you this: What is the difference?
